I’m dedicated to client education, and to helping ensure that the legacy of my clients is one that reflects their wishes and protects their interests.
Estate planning is highly personal. It can also be complex.
My approach as an estate planning attorney is to use an open, approachable, and engaging style to put clients at ease and assist them in navigating the full spectrum of estate, personal, and family matters that must be considered to fully protect and carry out their wishes. Commonly, in addition to a will and possibly a trust, clients will need to consider powers of attorney and gift tax planning.
Client education is always a key part of my practice, and an estate plan is personal and unique to each client. I take the time to counsel each client to make sure that they fully understand the components of their plan. Understanding what is being achieved by each component, how their plan will be administered, and how they can change the plan as their estate and circumstances change is of utmost importance.
Estate planning is often highly tax driven. This is particularly true in Washington State, which not only has a low estate tax exemption limit, but also requires that affirmative action be taken to secure the full benefits of the limit available. With an LL.M. (a Master of Laws) in taxation in addition to my law degree, I have the additional tax expertise to advise clients in highly complex tax planning.
I also assist clients with business issues such as entity selection, formation, and maintenance, contract drafting and review, real estate transactions, and drafting prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements.
